There are several ways that bunk beds for adults can be utilized effectively. The first thing that comes to mind is college dorms. Bunk beds with storage are wonderful space savers, and can be very elegant looking. Use in dorm rooms would allow one entire side of the room to be free for each student to have their own desk and an extra chair or two for visitors.
Retreats are another example of a place that could utilize bunk beds for adults. People are turned away from retreats simply because the amount of visitors has reached maximum capacity. Retreat areas usually have 2 twin beds per room. Imagine if there were 2 sets of bunk beds per room – the maximum capacity would be doubled!
Another area where needs severely exceed capacity is Rehabilitation Homes. Even if the maximum capacity were doubled, there would still be people on the waiting list. The use of bunk beds would allow twice as many people to receive needed help.
These are only a few of the areas that could greatly benefit from the use of bunk beds for adults. Now that you’re reading this I bet you have thought of at least one or two other uses for them!
When buying bunk beds with a trundle for adults that will be used daily for years to come make sure that the materials used for construction are sturdy. Adults are larger and heavier than children – you would not want Fred to fall thru onto Tom! I have found that the metal bunk beds are very sturdy, also some of the stronger wooden ones. You will probably be able to tell if the beds are sturdy enough for adults when you see them, but if you are unsure ask the sales associate. Invest in good quality mattresses. You will want your clients to be able to rest comfortably on them, and you do not want to replace mattresses every two to three months. There are several styles to choose from – I saw one set that had a twin size on the top, and a futon on the bottom. That gave an extra sitting area to use during the day.
I hope this has been informative and helpful for you.
